Datong is a renowned historical city for both Yungang Grottos and Hanging Monastery in Shanxi Province in Northern China. This private day tour from Beijing to Datong by round-way bullet train will let you explore both sites with a local guide. Please note this is a long day tour.
At 7am, you will be picked up from your centrally located Beijing hotel, then transferred to the train station to catch the 2-hour bullet train to Datong. Upon arrival, take another one-hour car ride to Hanging Monastery. The monastery was built with wood beside the cliff and supported with long stakes. You can climb up and walk through the temples to view the fantastic constructions and the impressive mountains.
Then, you will come back Datong and head to Yungang Grottoes, which was first chiseled in the first year of Year Heping in Northern Wei and Monk Tan Yao at that time chiseled it for duty of Emperor Wencheng. Most of the grottoes were finished in the eighteenth year of Year Taihe in Northern Wei before the capital moved to Luoyang, which lasted for forty years.
Later, you will be transferred back to Datong railway station to catch the bullet train back to Beijing. Upon arrival, you will be transferred back to your Beijing hotel where the tour concludes.
