In1996, Mount Emei Scenic Area, including Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area was inscribed on the list of World Heritage by UNESCO.

Emei (beautiful or elegant) mountain is famous for its imposing mountain view and its splendid Buddhist culture. There are many monasteries located on the mountain peaceful and serene for thousand years. At the base of the mountain is Emei city, which has been heavily touristy in the last 15 years. Hence it is very easy to find your suitable accommodation from guesthouse or 5-star hotels. You can hike in the mountains, or stay in the monastery to acquire unforgettable experience, or walking tour to nearby ancient village that is off path, we can offer different trips for you in Emei. Warning: Please keep off the monkeys as they will grab bottle water and food from your bag, and they hurt travelers every year.

Leshan Giant Buddha, 60km away from Mt Emei, had been constructed 90 years from 731 AD to 803 AD. It is a sitting Buddha statue chosen the postion facing the joint place for three rivers including Dadu River, Qingyi River and Ming River. In the history, these three rivers always flooded in the summer and made disaster to the local people. There was Monk Yuantong who decided to raise fund to build a Buddha statue here to protect local people in 713 AD. Though the monk died when it was not yet finished, the construction for the stature continued and completed in 803 AD. It said the rivers seldom make flood here after the Buddha standing beside the river.
