Sera Monastery


Sera Monastery is situated 5kms north of Lhasa, and was founded in 1419 by a disciple of Tsong Khapa. As one of the biggest Monasteries of Yellow Hat Sect for Tibetan Buddhism, it is well-preserved and be famous for its debating classes. Travelers can watch the debating which takes place from Monday to Friday around 3.30pm. Lamas clap hands to question and reply during the debating in purple monk robe, which make it very impressive.
